Google for Games

Google is expanding its video advertisements on tomorrow through the appeal of games. Though AdSense currently have some video advertisements, the company has not found it effective to users. The company believes that by creating games, video advertisements will be seen more often. Fifteen to 20 seconds video ads will be presented in before and after a round of game.

Casual games are attractive to all, however, Google will be targeting those between the age groups of 18-35 year-olds. Since these video ads cannot be skipped, Google hopes that a wider range of audiences will respond to these ads. This new innovation Google has taken on includes developers working with Adobe Flash System integrating ads with the new game systems.

A selection of games will be available for users to choose. Depending on what type of a game is chosen, Google will be selecting ads suitable to the type of game.

Google has been working on AdSense for games since last year. Now, it is finally ready to launch.

Considering the implications of Roger's blog entry here on Sept. 15, I wonder whether PSA (public service announcement) type ads could be required among all the product ads between game playing. PSAs that are just as, if not more, compelling than some of the videogames being played, but which remind players of their impact upon the real world, and infuse some healthy perspective into their game-playing habits.

But, then, if I figure videogame players right, they'll just find a way to disable or override anything that interferes with the momentum of their playing! ;)
